Positive Mental Health Week - 2014
Positive Mental Health Week took place in O'Fiaich College from Monday 13th to Friday the 17th of January.Throughout this week all students were encouraged to 'walk in the shoes' of others who are finding life difficult.TY students and SPHE and Religion teachers worked with pupils on creating coloured shoes with positive messages on them, these are displayed at the front door.
On Wednesday a day of fun was planned with bouncy castles and games in the gym. All pupils were permitted to attend this with their teachers and great fun was had by all.
On Thursday speakers were organised.A representative from Dundalk Outcomers John Ruddy spoke to PLC students about LGBT issues, homophobia and 'coming out' in Ireland today.Senior students and PLC students enjoyed talks from AWARE about safe guarding mental health and developing coping skills.
Sixth year students were treated to a session of mindfulness with Kinechi from Dundalk Youth Centre. This involved some meditation which will help calm the students down in preparation for the Leaving Certificate.
On Friday the 17th of Jan all students and teachers were encouraged to wear funny/different shoes for 'Funky Feet Friday' to highlight the idea of 'walking in the shoes' of others.
All in all Positive Mental Health week was a great success. Well Done to all involved!
